Introduction

Nuvigil is an oral drug that is used to promote wakefulness. It is similar 
to Armodafinil. Like amphetamines, Nuvigil promotes wakefulness by stimuatIng the brain; however, the exact mechanism of action of Nuvigil is unknown. Nuvigil may work by increasing the amount of dopamine (a chemical neurotransmitter that nerves use to communicate with each other) in the brain by reducing the reuptake of dopamine into nerves.

DESCRIPTION

NUVIGIL (Armodafinil) is a wakefulness-promoting agent for oral administration. Armodafinil is the R-enantiomer of Modafinil which is a 1:1 mixture of the R- and S-enantiomers. The chemical name for armodafinil is 2-[(R)-(diphenylmethyl) sulfinyl] acetamide. The molecular formula is C15H15NO2S and the molecular weight is 273.35. The chemical structure is:
Armodafinil is a white to off-white, crystalline powder that is slightly soluble in water, sparingly soluble in acetone, and soluble in methanol.

NUVIGIL tablets contain 50, 150, 200 or 250 mg of armodafinil and the following inactive ingredients: croscarmellose sodium, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, and pregelatinized starch.

What are the possible side effects of Nuvigil?

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Stop using Nuvigil and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:
  • fever,
  • sore throat,
  • headache,
  •  vomiting with a severe blistering,
  • peeling, and red skin rash;
  • bruising,
  • severe tingling,
  • numbness, pain,
  •  muscle weakness;
  • easy bruising or bleeding;
  • mouth sores,
  • trouble in breathing….

Warnings

Some important tips that you should remember before you start with the medicine.

  •          Take the medicine as prescribed. Do not overdose it as it may be habit-forming.
  •          It is not at all safe to use with alcohol. Avoid consumption of alcohol
  •          To use it for an excepted mother is not advisable.
  •          If you have any allergic reaction immediately rush for medical aid.

Cognitive brain enhancers are sweeping the country as college students, scientists, and even Wall Street Brokers are looking for way to give them a leg up on the competition. The question, however, is whether they actually make a difference for the better.
